about

“Strange Fruits,” exposes InDuna’s vulnerability as he recounts his experience of being bullied, feeling ashamed and insecure on this track. The recording process of it had him relive his past as he was haunted by feelings and emotions that were kept hidden away.
While Strange Fruits’ title took inspiration from the lyrical content of Kanye West’s ‘Blood On The Leaves’ and Nina Simone’s ‘Strange Fruit’, its meaning is quite different. The term ‘Strange Fruits’ directly refers to people InDuna has encountered in his life. And while these encounters were not the most positive and proved to be quite emotionally enduring, he acknowledges them in the single. In doing so he hopes to challenge listeners to acknowledge their own experiences where they’ve felt most vulnerable and bring them to the light.

“The song brought up a lot for me. But there were things I felt I was finally ready to let go of and start anew. As painful as it was for me, I felt a sense of responsibility to speak out and encourage – whether it’s my friends or anyone listening. To make this type of conversation something that is completely okay to talk about and something we should really start discussing more.”

lyrics

(Intro)
Strange fruits halla at me
These strange fruits halla at me
They say go back
To the motherland
Go back to the motherland

(V1)
They tease me am black
Look the darker the berry
the sweeter the juice
You just mad that you bitter
Young boy from the motherland
Never sell them your dreams
City is so gold
Diamonds so pure
Even strange fruits they say

(Pre-ch)
Halla halla
how much them dreams cost
Halla halla
how much them dollar cost ‘

(Ch)
Strange fruits halla at me
These strange fruits halla at me
They say go back
To the motherland
Go back to the motherland

(v2)
They took my heart out to the west
O no o no
You can take me out the ghetto
But you can't take the ghetto
Out of me
You can't take the ghetto
out of me

(Pre-ch)
Halla halla
how much them dreams cost
Halla halla
how much them dollar cost ‘

(Ch)
Strange fruits halla at me
These strange fruits halla at me
They say go back
To the motherland
Go back to the motherland

(break down)

Go back to the motherland
Go back to the motherland
Strange fruits hala at me
These strange fruits hala at me
They say go back
To the motherland
